"Voglio il divorzio"

There are many amusing stories that come out of the great country of Italy. But today, the wife of the prime minister announced she wants a divorce, and the reason, is rather amusing.

Only this would happen in Italia ...

Less than a week after writing an open letter criticizing her husband for cavorting with much younger women, the wife of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said she wanted to file for divorce.

“I’d like to close the curtain on our married life,” Mr. Berlusconi’s wife, Veronica Lario, 52, told the center-left daily newspaper La Repubblica in an article published Sunday.

On Tuesday, Ms. Lario wrote an open letter to the ANSA news agency complaining about her husband’s roving eye, her second such public declaration in recent years.

She was also angered by press reports that Mr. Berlusconi had attended the 18th birthday party in Naples of Noemi Letizia, who has said in several recent interviews that she called the prime minister “Daddy” and that he gave her a gold and diamond necklace.
“That surprised me,” Ms. Lario told ANSA. “Because he never attended the 18th birthday parties of his own children, even if he was invited.”

Our Vice President opens his mouth, again!

So this whole "swine flu" thing has really taken hold of the country, even the world. The truth of the matter is that here in the U.S. we have nothing to be worried about, as of right now. There are more than 100 cases being reported, but not one single American has died.

Yes, things are bad down in Mexico, but places down there are unsanitary and they don't have the same type of medical care that we do.

With that said, our wonderful vice president opened his mouth on the 'Today' Show this morning, and basically said that in order to remain safe from the flu, people should avoid cars, planes, classrooms, trains, subways, and confined spaces. Are you kidding me? Why don't we stop life while we are at it?

Last Night President Obama addressed the nation to mark his first 100 days in office. During his speech he pretty much said that everyone needs to remain calm and go about their lives. Less than 12 hours later, Biden goes on national television and contradicts everything Obama said. Is that a sign of a great vice president, or a complete moron?

Joe Biden, do us a favor and keep your mouth shut. everytime you open it something stupid comes out. As a matter of fact, this latest comment was so stupid that it prompted American Airlines to respond. The company had this to say:

“To suggest that people not fly at this stage of things is a broad brush stroke bordering on fear mongering. The facts of the situation at this stage certainly don’t support that.”

Thank you for being a friend, Bea Arthur!

By now I'm sure everyone has heard the news that actress Bea Arthur, known best as Dorothy Zbornak on the 'Golden Girls,' has died.

She passed away early yesterday at her home in Los Angeles. Her family says she had been battling Cancer, but died peacefully.

In the late 80's and early 90's The 'Golden Girls' was a part of my life. I can remember watching them on Saturday nights with my grandmother, and even at eight years old, I remember finding them amusing. Even till this day I will watch the ocassional re-run that airs on TV. To me the show represents a part of my life, a part of my up bringing. Watching it reminds me of my grandmother.

Arthur's on air mother, Estelle Getty, passed away last July. Now, with the passing of Bea, I am reminded how I am getting older. These were people I grew up with. I didn't know them, but to me they represent a time in my life -- when the world seemed safe, stable and especially on Saturday night, amusing.
Thanks for the laughter, Bea.

On a Wing and a Prayer ... literally!

We are only 3 weeks into the new year and I can already tell you U.S. Airways 1549 is the feel good story of 2009.

From a pilot and airplane aficiando's point of view, what happened on January 15th was exactly what the media has dubbed it, a "miracle."

Never in the history of aviation has a pilot ditched a commercial airliner into the water without it breaking apart or lives being lost. What the crew onboard the Airbus A320 did that day saved the lives of 155 people, and Captain Chesley Sullenberger is hero.

Running the Last Lap ...

... TO THE FINISH LINE!

After all the debates, conventions, political analysis, SNL skits, campaigning, rallies, name calling, negative ads and hard work -- the time has come. Tonight one of the presidential candidates and their running mate will cross the finish line of a race they've been running (and we've been watching) for nearly 2 years.

No matter who you vote for, we can all agree on one thing; this is history in the making.

Will the first African American make it into the White House alongside a man who has much respect as a U.S. senator?

-OR-

Will a man who fought for his country in a war go from former P.O.W to President, brining with him the first woman into the White House?

Those questions will soon be answered, and when all is said and done America will usher in the 44th president of the United States.

Each candidate has put their heart and soul into this campaign, trying to prove to us that they have what it takes to be the next Commander-in-Chief. Along the way there have been fumbles, achievements, gaffs, tough questions and historic moments, but through it all McCain/Palin and Obama/Biden have kept the momentum going. Was this race unfair at times? Yes! Were the institutions that are suppose to report us the facts bias towards certain candidates? Yes! But when you take all of that out of the equation you have 4 people who, I believe, have America's future in their best interest.

I commend John McCain, Sarah Palin, Barack Obama and Joe Biden for their hard work and dedication throughout this entire election process. Each one of them has come a long way, and in their own way has what it takes to lead this country.

It is now time for America to decide. May the best man win!
